I have fond memories of “Nic” which was paradise after the Canal Zone. And also useful for shopping trips where brandy could be acquired for 3/6 a bottle (rotgut) and good stuff at 5/6. Here is the main street of Nicosia during one such expedition circa 1952-4
I last saw that junction in 1980 and it looked no different.

Not so much a paradise when I was there serving in 40. Commando. That street became known as ‘Murder Mile’.
