That’s in 74’s line-up at the July 1992 ‘Phantom Pharewell’ bash at Wattisham.

Dunno what ‘it’ is, but I understand the ‘shiver’. 🙂

Thanks for that Lazy8. Nice – where was that shot taken?

What is it about the Phantom? It gives me a shiver down my spine every time I see one – especially the Brit or US Navy ones.

Nice pics, Tony.

Also nice to see my (cockpit only) Phantom, XV490, present in two of the line-ups at different times in different schemes.

Now were the 74 Sqn ones harder to take that day as I cant find much photos of them and the only one I can never find is XV497

I went to a Sqn families day by Puma in the 70’s and took these, not the greatest but I thought you might like to see them

Ah. There you go. For some reason that wouldn’t attach to my first post.

Elsewhere on the apron were 56’s Y and Z (XT897 and XT910) and D (aka BD – XV470, with sharkmouth) and 74’s P (XT905), along with another ‘P’ (XT906, bereft of squadron insignia, apart from some NATO zaps on one wing tank).

74 weren’t as creative. The line up was:
XV465 S
XV497 W
XV433 E
XV474 T (big tiger head on the fin)
XV423 Y (commemorative badge with insignia of all phantom operating countries. ‘TIGER MEET’ below the fin flash)
XT892 J
XV490 R
XT896 V

I wait for someone to enlighten me with the in-joke behind ‘SWETYJRV’. I can’t see it…

Dakotaman

You are correct with your line-up of 56-Sqn at the 1992 photoshoot – all red fins spelling PHOENIXFTR. I did not record the sequence for 74-Sqn but I probably have a (non-digital) print somewhere if I knew where to look.

Hope that helps
