RAF pilot certificate

Attached (hopefully) is a photo of a metal certificate awarded to my Great Uncle DTN Kelly on completion of his flying training in 1942 at British Flying Training School No3 Spartan School Of Areonautics, Miami,Oklahoma USA. Does anyone know if this award was unique to this school or was it a standard award across the BFTS?
Thanks,
Andy

Andy,

This plaque in the name of F/O J.G. Hanson, is still held by a relative of his. Sadly I can’t read the name of the flying school at the bottom, but according to his logbook, he trained at No 3 BFTS (26/5/43 – 6/12/43), which I think is the same place as your Great uncle.

Sorry about the poor photo, its an enlargement from a not too good original.

Geoff.

Hello Andy,

This is my first posting to this wonderful forum but I have been watching it for two years now.
My father flew with 106 sqn in 1943 and I have been able to make contact with his pilot S.V. Stevens DFC who alive and well in the UK. I know Steve also graduated for Miami, OKL. in 1942. I’ll see if he remembers the same plaque. For more info on Mr Stevens go to my web site www.10697sqn.com

Cheers, Chris
