Me again (still no digicam) Reading previous threads, someone mentioned collectors on this Forum . I wonder if there is anyone who has a pair of those red, rubber, first official? goggles issued to the RFC early ww1 in their collection or who knows where there might be a pair in a collection/museum?
the reason i ask, is that i purchased a pair of red rubber ‘vintage motoring goggles’ in a small card ‘leatherette’ covered box recently and i think they might POSS be the type issued to RFC! They are mentioned in, British Air Forces 1914-1918. Vol 2. By Andrew Cormack and Peter Cormack, There is a WRAF member holding a pair in the cover artwork, plus, on page 30 there is an artwork of Lanoe Hawker wearing a pair, the lenses in these look rounder than the pair i have, but on page 24 Sjt Frederick Shaw is wearing a pair and the lenses look more elongated like the pair i have. As yet i havn’t been able to say one way or the other what i have got but as i collect RFC/RAF Goggles i would be well chuffed if they were!!
Mentioned in the text on page 35.
Poss also seen in, A Contemptible Little Flying Corps, by I.McInnes & J.V. Webb. page425 photo of Robert Holland.
Can anyone post a good ,clear image?
