RAF Scampton Open Day

A few shots from todays open day at Scampton:-

Airmen’s Mess – now Scampton’s Control & Reporting Centre. The windows at the top left were the briefing room were Guy Gibson briefed the crews prior to operation Chastise.

Unfortunately the Reds had departed just before we got on the station and only this one remained – note the Gnat on the left, both outside No.4 Hangar.

No.2 Hangar – The two windows at the top right were Guy Gibson’s office – the fenced area is Nigger’s grave.

Bit of an awkward angle to photograph this one.

The final scene in the ‘Dam Busters’ sees Guy Gibson walking away from the camera down this road, past the Airmen’s Mess.

A great day nicely rounded off with a pint of ‘Lancaster Bomber’ in the Dam Busters Inn, which is full of memorabilia and well worth a visit – http://www.dambustersinn.co.uk/index.html

Painting of presentation.

The painting above is of HM The Queen presenting new Squadron Colours to 83 Squadron in 1963, at RAF Scampton.

Those are great pics, I feel really guilty as It’s only up the road and we’ve never been, one day we will.

They’re always talking about shutting Scampton again lol it’s a bit a joke now 😀

Self explanatory really.

Not sure of the story behind this painting, but the Queen is depicted here making a presentation.

Was any of the Dambuster’s filmed at Scampton??? I though it was filmed just up the road at Hemswell.

Hemswell and Scampton – we were told about the final scene yesterday.
