RAF Stratford Upon Avon

I believe this was a satellite to RAF Wellesbourne and was on the out skirts of Stratford. I’m trying to find any photographs in particular any period shots from the air showing the runway(s) or in fact any information as so far I’ve unable top find much on it.

There is a comprehensive list of aerial views of UK airfields, past and present, at http://www.content-delivery.co.uk/aviation/airfields/. For Stratford (Atherstone) go to http://www.content-delivery.co.uk/aviation/airfields/Stratford.html .

I vaguely remember from 40 years ago when the Midland Aircraft Preservation Society was looking for premises, we looked looked at a building (wooden I think) surviving on the ex-RAF site. I reckon it was in too bad a condition to consider using. I know I took photos at the time but where they are now??

RAF Stratford on Avon

I think you are talking about the airfield just off the Shipston Road out of Stratford on Avon.

You can see the outlines of the runways on Google Maps, not much of the other infrastructure remains.

I recently worked for an engineering comapny based on this site and one of the workshops was the old Officers Mess.

An interesting building with a number of ghosts.

Also the airfied is the site of the tragic fire where 4 firemen died.

I live a short distance from RAF Snitterfield – currently home to the Stratford on Avon Gliding Club.

Hope this is helpful
