Hello,
I’m new to the forum today….
My Father (John Clegg) was stationed at RAF Thorney Island in the late 1960’s when I was very young. He unfortunately contracted a flu virus and died in December 1969. We lived in Hunter Road.
A remember him taking me to a radar room so assume that he worked in navigation or flight control – although I’m not at all sure. I clearly remember the noise and excitement of the Hercules planes though 🙂
Anyhow, I was put in touch with this forum since there are apparently a few people who served on Thorney Island – some of whom may have some pictures. I have none – and wonder if there are any ‘group’ shots from 1968 or 1969?
I’ve tried to get back onto the island for a brief visit to look at the old hangers again – but alas the army wont let me on….
If anyone can help, it will be very appreciated.

A late reply,my father was raf pay accounts st thorny from 62 to 68 he was flt sergeant Moore, “dinty” to his colleagues!Sadly he died on leaving the forces.
We lived at 9 meteor road, they were the happiest days of my life the beach at Pilsea,the marshes and all that open space.People I remember, Anne Moore
i think lived in hunter road ,Ray Bish,Cameron my schoolmates.
