An interesting development. The 6 at Bruntingthorpe have just been registered to an LA-based owner.

The one at Kemble has moved across the airfield to the cutting up area. I can’t say I’ll be sorry to see the end of it!

Think the scrappers are at Kemble and Cambridge, the six potential flyers are at Brunty, wanting a buyer.

Bruntingthorpe seems to have been the destination of the flyers ! Unless some miracle happens I should imagine they have had their last landings !

Where have the Tristars gone too? Anyone know if they will be sold on or scrapped?

I will not be mourning their passing and I note that Cambridge Airport is already resembling an Elephants graveyard. 😎

Indeed it is, and snoopy the engine testbed C130 Hercules is now minus its wings as well !

Roobarb,
I should imagine one or two Movers share your sentiments with the whole Tristar fleet. Loading one outside at Mount Pleasant in “minus lord knows what degree of temp & horizontal snow blown in by an Antartic gale was never a pleasant experience. In fact the aircraft’s only saving grace was the blast from the APU, where you often found a gaggle us Movers keeping warm when it was freezing:eek:.

Before you ask, it was never proven that we did it to avoid work:sleeping:(:eagerness:.)

Considering all of the Voyagers are currently grounded I wonder if this could change?

Perhaps they should be stored for later use? I’ll fetch a spade……..how deep do we need to dig to reach Burma?

Bring on the mechanical excavators with those hydraulic pincers… YES!!!!

Hideous planes, hideous Skydrol, cr*ppy fastners, cr*ppy tank fit in the C1 bay, cockpit as advanced and comfy as a 1970’s Bus. Hydraulic Service Centre? More like hydraulic bl**dy Lido. Rotting floor-beams, leaky bogs, iffy doors. About the only good point was their ability to swallow three RB211’s into the upper fuselage cargo bay so that they could go down route to rescue fellow TriStars that had broken down!

I will not be mourning their passing and I note that Cambridge Airport is already resembling an Elephants graveyard. 😎

Looks like a US AAR company may be sniffing around them

The TriStar has a very good safety record….despite its relative lack of fame, it might go down as a great aircraft.

If they won’t fly a VC-10 in I doubt that they will allow a TriStar to land there.

under normal circumstances a Tristar needs 5,698 feet, VC10 6,380 feet (although the one at Brooklands was landed in about 3,500 feet)

Cosford is 3,890 feet

It is a shame that there could not have been a Transport Command Collection at Brize Norton

Until the new ones arrive what tankers does the RAF have left? It was only last year some lunatic wanted the VC10s and Tristars removed and sensible RAF seniors pointed out we would have no tankers at all…

Voyagers been operating in and out of Akrotiri for a few months now.

I love the fact it doesn’t mention where 906 EAW is based.

An interesting interpretation of the true facts. In reality, the planned OSD was due to be last year for the TriStar, and the year before for VC-10, and both were extended in service to cover the slippage in the Voyager programme.
