Does anyone have schematics for powering this up? Its 12 volt and I am looking at restoring it possibly to run>?

Update….

I managed to get the interval Knob freed up and working again. Still no luck getting the on off knob free but I did manage to get power to it and the motor runs

Peter. If there are parts that are seized up and it would seem that there could be, It would be best not to power it up. The motor turns a friction drive and powering it up could seriously damage this and you wouldn’t want that! The only thing I can suggest is that you strip it down and free up the parts that should be moving with penetrating oil. Be careful not to get any oil on the two timing cogs as these are friction driven and need to be clean but free from oil. l don’t know how much help this info is to you but by stripping it down will give you a good insight into how it all works!! I will just say that if you let the on / off switch soak from the top with penetrating oil you should be able (with luck) and the help of a couple of small levers, raise the knob enough to clear the block with the locating pin in it and then be able to remove the block. You should then be able (with a bit more luck) to push the knob down enough to remove the small collet and then remove the knob. You should then be able to sort out the problem with the switch. I would suggest that this be the first thing you need to do.
Good luck!

Which parts are refusing to come out? Remember that Bakelite can swell slightly due to moisture absorption. If this is part of the problem leave the unit on top of a radiator for a week and the dismantling problem might go away, even if only temporarily. I’ve had a great success with stubborn connectors, bulb holders and the like, where a Bakelite insert gets stuck inside a metal shell.

Ok a little success but not much. Cornovii, I removed the screws marked B and removed the switch and its mounting brackets.. Sadly I am unable to get it to pull out and back in although it does move slightly. I did soak it in penetrating oil, so who knows.. one day?? Moving on I was able to get the power up on it using the two pins you mentioned and depressing the cutout buttons under the sitch that turn it on and off… The motor spooled up with the red light shining….!

Hi Peter.
If you cannot pull out the on off knob and turn it to the on position then you can not power the unit up..The two pin plug on the side of the unit is only for a extension red light for the pilot so he knows that a photo is about to be taken. The top timer dial can be quite stiff to turn as there is a compression / friction washer underneath to stop any vibration turning it.
With the on / off switch I would suggest that you remove the switch to investigate further. You do this by removing the 3 screws marked “B” can be a bit of a fiddle! The only reason the knob is spring loaded is so it can lock in the on or off position. There is a little block under the knob held by a screw. This block has a small pin in it that locates in holes in the bottom of knob so don’t try turning it without raising it first. I suspect that rust may be involved.

Hope this helps.

Type 35 Camera control

Hi guy’s
for some reason the upper knob on the front will not move despite it looking in excellent shape inside?? Also the silver knob on the right wont pull out either? Lots of clock type gears etc inside.. When I put power to the two camera pins on the side, I get a running up of a motor or gyro and the red light illuminates?

James,
Did you by any chance copy the chapter which covers the drive motor? I’ll email you direct.

Hi Peter

I am not able to help really but I was at the RAFM last week and took a copy of the Type 24 camera section of AP1355, sadly too little time to photograph the whole document or I may have had what you need. Not any use to you except to say that the guys at RAFM might take a scan of the appropriate page if that camera is in the AP.

If the Type 35 is anything like the Type 24 you would be welcome to a copy of the photos I have of the type 24 AP.

Hopefully some else may be of more help!

Cheers
James
