A good starting point may be two books by Dr Alfred Price ‘The Hardest day’ and ‘Battle of Britain Day’ which each cover a specific day during the Battle-of-Britain. They contain an ‘order of battle’ for both sides with aircraft numbers (and serviceability) and there is some analysis of reserve aircraft, production figures and pilot numbers. Both are very easily and cheaply obtained second hand.
