Hello all!
How long do the RAF VC-10 fleet have to go until retirement?
I only ask as the last few weeks have seen VC-10s visiting marshalls aerospace at cambridge, for i asume, cosmetics.
Todays arrival was calling:868 and looked a little worse for wear!
see attachment.
Regards,
Ben.

Don’t hesitate, just post them here 😉
I don’t have a scanner, I gave up with them as the temp here in the Mojave kills them in about 2 weeks flat….

The VC.10 (or another) departed from Halifax Airport, Nova Scotia on Monday, 16th May about 2.00 p.m. It certainly got the attention of a few residents who are more used to Boeings and Airbus’s. Sorry no photo available.
I bet it did. They are certainly not the world’s quietest aircraft by any means

10 Sqn to Disband?
According to a post on another website it was announced in the last 24 hrs that 10 Sqn is to disband later this year and three more 10s are to be scrapped. Confirmation anyone?
I should learn to type faster than mmitch!

On the RAF website it says that 3 more VC10s will be withdrawn from use and the 16 left will be operated by 101 squadron. 10 squadron will be disbanded in October.

It strikes me as strange that the FR pod is painted in primer as well – these used to be removed when a/c went for servicing/painting. I live near Brize so I’ll have to keep an eye out for it. I still think the original green / grey was the best scheme ( ‘B’ ZA141 1983-84)

Sssh Damien, keep quiet about those Lightnings. 😉
Next you’ll be letting everyone in on the pilot currency operation down in Cape Town. 😉 😀

Cracking pic Damien. Anyone know why it came out black and not the usual green/yellow?

Sorry about the poor picture wrong place wrong time!
It’s better than I managed … despite apparently successfully writing the images onto the CF card (I powered the camera back up again after the shoot and quickly reviewed them), when I put it into the PC it was blank, save for the readme that I leave on the card 🙁
It (the VC-10, that is!) sounded good though.

Cambridge ATC have developed a sense of humour? I bet they’re miserable again by the weekend. 😉

yep same aircraft
It left around cambridge midday`ish.
Right wing was still in yellow primer.
Some good atc chatter between tower and the vc-10.
Aircrew joking about the “unfinished wing”,atc replying:”that`ill teach you to bring it here!”
Sorry about the poor picture wrong place wrong time!

Poor assumption re: who will be the flight crew
AIUI it’s a lease deal like any other except with one caveat.
UK-plc will be probably be leasing them as well by the end of the decade…
