Can anybody provide me with any information as to which RAFGSA gliders flew at which RAFGSA club by registration number during the 60’s and 70’s.

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum and I have come across this thread which is of great interest to me as I’m currently researching the British military glider registers.

Please can “Horsa19” contact me off forum?

alan.preece1@virginmedia.com.

Many thanks and kind regards.

Past member’s of the RAFGSA have a Facebook page. Lots of knowledgable people who may well be able to answer your question.

Do you have any information, please, about GSA280 which, I think, was scrapped at Bicester in about 1967?

I have a very comprehensive list of RAFGSA gliders……complete back to 1967. More sketchy before that but some useful info.

RAFGSA Gliders

Many thanks for that. Another gap filled in.

BGA 544 was new around September 1947 and was registered as G-ALMJ in 1949 to the Army Flying Club, based at Odiham. – see http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/HistoricalMaterial/G-ALMJ.pdf
I think it went on to the London Gliding Club at Dunstable in the 1950s. . .

RAFGSA and Army Flying Core Gliders

I am trying to trace G- ALMJ which was delivered to Sandhurst Army Flying Corps in 1949 ( 1948 Oly 2 B Constructor no 046). Now BGA 544
It then went to RAFGSA. Any information or pictures of it would be appreciated, a long shot I know.

Also Another Oly 2 B 🙂 which we are about to start restoring RAFGSA 206 which was at Bicester for a while, if any one has any pictures?

Thanks

The photo on the left is of a T.21 and the one on the risght shows ASK13 386 which became R86 prior to being sold to Shalbourne Soaring Society in 2000.

Would like to know reg/serials of gliders at Clevelands RAFGSA at Leeming 1958-1961. Fleet was Cadet 1,Tutor,Grunau(with dolly wheels)T-31,T-21,Oly2B”133″,Skylark 3F. I had my first ever flight in the T-31 aged 5. The club helped with training the new club forming at Driffield, and Pete Lane used to wave fly in the T-21. I last heard the Oly was at Pocklington ?

I flew at East Midlands Swinderby in 1967 T-21 “212” and K-7″353″. There was a K-6E and SHK there but cannot remember numbers.

Rafgsa Archives – Oly 2 B – Constructors number 046

Can any one with access to the archive tell me where the 1948 Oly 2 b constructors number 46 BGA 544 was flown?
We rescued and rebuilt this one in 2006 -7. The early history, pre 1961 was lost in 1961.
I think it came out of service in 1951 and went to the Mynd before being sold to the Staffordshire Gliding club.
I would also appreciate any pictures of it that may exist in its original colours.
We have now acquired a 1956 Oly with full history, BGA 1718 it was RAFGSA at Bicester until late 1960’s again, if any one has any pictures…….
We hope to have this one flying again this year.

Grunau baby 220 was at Bicester in 1961, and ASK18 236 was with Four Counties at Syerston in 76 as was T.21 212 and Blanik R12. I will try to find others.
