Video on twitter of it arriving back at Coningsby ‘Delighted to announce that @RAFMUSEUM Typhoon 1B MN235 is joining us here at @RAFCGY for the summer as part of our @RAF100 celebrations.. Lets hope they can find some room back at Hendon, or Cosford later in the year? Irreplaceable in my opinion.

Has MN235 been repatriated with its missing radiator that was dug up at Freeman(?) Airfield a while back.
If not are their plans to?

As far as I understand it, previous efforts by RAFM to find any original Typhoon spinner/prop/cowlings have proved fruitless, hence the “best attempt” nose with approximate cowlings, Shackleton prop and modified Hastings spinner. ‘235’s originals were lost many moons ago while in the US.
Have to say I like the current scheme, it’s good to see it in operational colours and the black nose does a good job of toning-down the slightly over-size spinner. Just my tuppence-worth.

Wouldn’t it be great for all that stuff stored away from the public at Stafford to be on show at, say, Scampton?!
But Scampton is being sold. :dev2:

Doesn’t it look better with it’s original spinner shape?! Looks more “butch” in my eyes, more pugnacious.

The Typhoon arrived back from it’s loan in Canada in May. She has been kept at the RAF Museum reserve collection store at MOD Stafford. After Coningsby has finished with her she would look great at Cosford.

It’s a shame the Hawker Typhoon couldn’t of been delivered to Duxford in time for FL as well, given the amount of WW2 type hardware that was already there on display. But personally I think it looks great standing next to the current Typhoon.

Public access? I understood there was access to the Bof B flight . https://www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/heritage-and-tourism/battle-of-britain-memorial-flight/

And what modern RAF type is based at Coningsby…?

The typhoon was delivered on the back of a lorry to Coningsby! I saw comment on Facebook from the RB396 team suggesting it has been in the country for a few weeks atleast!
As for the why choose Coningsby I have no idea but I’d guess because it’s an RAF squadron and the Typhoon is RAF property I’d guess? No idea really

Absolutely gorgeous photo !!
Couple of questions spring to mind.
1) How did the Typhoon arrive at Coningsby ? Was it flown in direct from Canada, or roaded in from another location, Brize Norton ?
2) When did it arrive back in the UK ? Surely these things take time to plan, could it not have been returned in time for display at Cosford ?
3) Why choose to display it at Coningsby with very limited public access ? Surely Duxford would be more appropriate even if only as a temporary exhibit ?

After tonight’s BBC News, Scampton would seem to be a short term option …
By: Trolly Aux - 24th July 2018 at 12:47
nothing is needed at Hendon if it has wings or to do with the RAF,Send it all to Scampton
By: stuart gowans - 24th July 2018 at 12:43
Let’s face it it’s not needed at Hendon…….
