Hi all,
Does anyone know of any plans to exhibit a Jag at hendon and if so is there a likely candidate?

oops just spotted my deliberate mistake:o, checking Demobbed XX733 is no longer IIRC she crashed off the end of Colts runway in the mid 90s, but the doors were definitely on display in the foyer of the Sgts Mess.
The Spotty Jag scheme is too good to lose but IMHO, I don’t see it as being fitting for the Bomber Command hall at Hendon.
None of the Nose art panels at Colt were off the original GW1 aircraft, but repos done on gash panels by the orignal artist (the Orignals were across the panels and fixed parts of the airframes). The Pink Spitfire, Katrina Jane, White Rose and Saddam ones are now at the RAFADRM at Neatishead (Canopener Al rescued the Pink Spitfire panel from the Sgt Mess, it went to Coningsby and when 6 Sqn was canned, Al’s missus dropped it off at my House and I took it to Neatishead).
The 6 Sqn 90th Tail off the Hanger queen the Sqn had also survived, it was removed when the airframe was scrapped and went to Coningsby in Jun 06.
Spotty Jag must be kept!!!

“As covered elsewhere the Jags have very little airframe life left and even less wing FI. Unlikely that they’ll be sold on, sad to say the best use for them is as GIA, and when you think of how many JPs, Hunters etc have survived for that very reason, we can only be grateful for the future.”
shame, maybe I just wanted one to fly – thanks for the correction – would love to see as many saved as Hunters etc – lovely aircraft the Jaguar….

I read elsewhere that they may be sold onto an existing Jaguar user – not India as the process takes too long, but Equador (still in use?) Oman etc.
maybe for the speed merchants on the modern forum rather than here, but surely the Jags would be a better option for Afghanistan than Tornado’s?
But yes please, lets have a few preserved:)

At one time there was a rumour that a lot of Jaguars were going to be allocated to ATC Squadrons. Has anyone else heard the same?
I hope so 😀
I doubt it would ever happern as most seem to be sold allready 🙁

nice though the spotty Jag is I think that a more war like scheme would be in keeping. If I had a choice then I’d probably go for an Op Granby desert scheme and out of those aircraft XX733 ‘Pink Spitfire’ would be the one. I know that the original avionics bay doors with the artwork were displayed in the Sgts Mess at Coltishall, I wonder what happened to them?
John
John, there are not original avionics bays at RAF Neatishead museum.

It’s a while ago now, but in the ‘volunteer’s crew-room’ at Newark there was much discussion about several approaches that had been received from ATC Squadrons seeking approval for the museum to house ‘their Jaguars!’
Obviously nothing’s arrived yet but I just wondered whether anyone else had heard similar stories.
Perhaps one will turn up at the Aeroboot on Saturday!! 😮

I hope so ‘cos our Sqn cdr would be over the moon, she loves Jags!
seriously though it’s the first I’ve heard of it and knowing the MOD as I do I think the days of aircraft being on loan to cadets is over, they want hard cash for them nowadays.

The one-off colour schemes are okay but not really of historical importance in terms of the actual role of the machine. Are there any Jaguar’s with a particularily interesting history from the operational point of view??

Probably one of the ones off ebay would be most likely, they all seem to end up there at rip off prices first

thats a very fair point david, i suppose though with modern aircraft, is it not more luck of the draw? are any of the modern types at hendon really special (except the record breaking canberra) though ive only been once and cant remember, the two that stuck in mind mainly were the phantom and lightning?

i hope that the RAFM get the specially painted one 🙂 that would be a perfect place for her (except perhaps in civvy hands and flying again… 😉 )
My words exactly Nash, the ‘spotty one’ just has to go to a museum somewhere, if it were to be scraped it would be an absolute traversty.
John.

The Suffolk Jags were disposed of very quickly and were the original GIAs from Cosford. Unfortunately I’d left the Jaguar Project Team by that time so I have no idea how the tendering process was organised. IIRC they were under the control of RAF Support Command and although Defence Logistics had engineering responsibility they weren’t our assets to dispose of. At least the ones currently at Cosford are largely kept under cover and are genuine warbirds. We’ll just have to keep our wits about us when it comes time to replace them (10 years?)

Most of the fleet of Jags are sitting rotting away at Benwaters . Same fate as a lot of the sea Harriers and Tornadoes.
seems today they go to the highest bidder for a fate of just rotting away or scrap. as in the past museums and collectors are allways and have been outbid by the scrap man .
Will be the same fate for the airframes at Cosford once they become surplus to requirement. the scrap man or other will snap the lot up for scrap or just to sit and rot away in a field.

Thanks for that, I knew someone out there would know.
