Rajasthan to offer ‘Palace on Air’ luxury travel:
The Indian state of Rajasthan is to launch a luxurious airliner dubbed the ‘Palace on Air’ to attract rich tourists.
The converted Boeing 747 is inspired by the Palace on Wheels, a popular train service offering opulent travel across the desert state.
The jet, decorated in the style of an Indian maharaja’s palace, will carry 70 passengers – each with personal attendants.
It will be met at each city by limousines and personal guides, and passengers will stay in the converted palaces known as heritage hotels.
A six-night return trip from New Delhi to Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Bikaner and back, will cost £1,900 per person.

Fantastic – you’re going to end up with more crew than you are passengers!
And in my opinion, £1900 is not bad going. Obviously not aimed at the average person, it’s still not as expensive as you would have thought. Look at Concorde for example, that costs thousands for no more than about 7 hours flying time.
