I have seen some Air Forces (like the US / Singapore / Canada) having a practise of painting the names of the pilots under the glass canopy / fuselages of their assigned aircrafts, whereas some Air Forces do not have this practise (like the Indian Air Force).
Someone mind enlightening me as to
1) how did the tradition of mentioning names of pilots under the glass canopy came about?
2) why is this practise not well received in other air forces of the world?
Inputs would be highly appreciated
