In fact there are times when a good reputation can stop you achieving a good rank.
By: Flood - 2nd May 2004 at 20:34
Especially since, as any military historian will verify, you can achieve a good rank without a good reputation…;)

Doesn’t it have to do with other people pushing the scales on your posts? Something like that i guess…
now you’re confusing rank with reputation points. 2 separate things i believe Arthur.

Steve, over 4,000 posts and you’re only Rank 4?
Who’ve you been annoying?
My understanding is the higher the number the higher the rank, i’m just wondering why some people aren’t ranked at all

But, Stieglitz, I only joined 5 minutes ago and seem to have achieved a high rank in no time! Mind you I have long lurking time!

Yes, but with the old system, the only important thing was the number of posts. With 100 posts you had the rank of senior member. If you where a fast boy with for example 7 to 8 posts a day, you could be senior member in two weeks. That was a bit silly. Now, with the new system, that isn’t possible any more.
How did you get that high rank in 5 minutes? That must be a special new lurking technique! 😉

I can see that, however if i didnt like my current rank i could change it to one i did ? So what is the point in having a forum rank if we can change it to what we want ? Just seems silly to me.

Why have a ranking system when we can put whatever we want in its place ???
