Rare Air India snaps

Just came through these few snaps of aircrafts that served very briefly with AI…. just 1 day, in the Tristar’s case.

They also used leased DC8Fs from various operators and a 747F from Tigers I think. Cargo flights only.

Nice rare images. Wasn’t there a similar situation with Japan Airlines and the Tu114 back in the 60s?

The IL 62 was operated by AI in the 80s by Air India.

Joined the fleet in November 1987 to start thrice weekly service to Moscow (SVO to be exact). If I remember correctly this aircraft was returned back in early 1988.

In 1989 another IL 62 was leased by AI to serve Tashkent, this service was also discontinued within 2-3 months and the 62 was returned back.

The Tristar is a peculiar case, AI had V2-LEK and LEJ that served for some time but the aircraft in picture V2-LEO only flew for AI in AI colors for 24 hrs. Why? I have no clue, yet.

Blimey those ARE rare! Any idea of the dates those were taken and how long the IL-62 was leased for?
