I continue to be amazed that film discoveries are still turning up a century after they were made. I wonder what other treasures will come to light?

3:05, looks like Goering but I am not sure.
If it was all filmed in Sept 1917, then it can’t be…..see my post #9 above.
Having looked at the film a few more times, there is someone in it though that looks a little like it could be Werner Voss….??
Guy at far right at 2:16 in film looks a little like Voss?

Interesting watching the British Pilot at the end.
Looks very jovial but still with an air of tension. They were trying to kill him after all.
Any speculation on how the pilot was downed?
Wonder if he was shot down from a frontal attack?

Just to add, Lt A F Bird of 46 Squadron was Richthofen’s 61st victory, flying a Sopwith Pup B1795
Anthony Fokker is wearing Birds flying coat and helmet.
Should have added it was the 3rd September 1917

Yes, Goering is in this film along with other notables.
Which means that very brief shot of him in, if its the bit I’m thinking of, was shot after Von Richtofen had been killed, and then inserted into this film?
As Goering wasn’t awarded the PLM nor joined the Richtofen Circus until mid summer 1918, after Von Richtofen’s death and this was supposedly filmed in Sept 1917…which ties in with the POW shot at least.

This footage was filmed by Tony Fokker, a prolific movie maker during his adult life. Most of what you see was staged for filming. Of note is the segment that has Fokker pointing out the bullet holes in the cowl of the downed aircraft. Not many civilians were given access to the front lines. Yes, Goering is in this film along with other notables. The original copies of this footage are held in the Hugh Wynne archive of the University of Texas, Dallas. While copies can be purchased on DVD, they are, of course, not to be copied or distributed the way this one has. No wonder archives have difficulties.

I’ve seen bits of that film before, but never in its entirety. Fascinating stuff.

Amazing how many times still images turns out to be still from film.
Also a few times B&W photos printed in magazines and books sourced from colo(u)r photos(!)

He was shot down once, from memory roughly between his Albatros days and getting his first Triplane. The head wound was said to be so deep that you could see the white of his skull. Must have worn extra protection afterwards. I think he was supposed to of had a bit of a relationship with his nurse. Someone on here will be able to give you much clearer details.

Does anyone else notice the chin strap on his cap? When he takes the cap off, the chin strap stays on his head. What exactly is that chin strap?? 1:46 in the footage. It looks like there is something on the top of his head.
