I am looking for accurate data or information on the rate of fire during the Battle of Britain from Spitfires and Hurricanes using the 8 x Browning machine guns.
How many bullets were loaded?
Rate of fire and how many seconds of firing would it allow?
Were tracers used and did they count towards the ammo count,

Moggy are you sure the MG17 and MG81 were 7.62? given their country of origin 7.92 would seem to be more likely.

I happen to own an deactivated .303 Browning Mk II* Machinegun. It belonged to one of the 15 Avro Lancasters which served in the Argentine Air Force until the middle 60´s. Does anybody know the meaning of the markings on it. The crown, GR and crossed scepters I know, but what about the circle with the BU ( or is it a badly punched O ? ) and the back-to-back C´s inside.
