Happy New year to all.
I was wondering if there are any museums within reasonably easy reach from London where one could access the cockpits and interiors of historic aircraft, ideally second world war types, Spitfire/Hurricane perhaps, for another photography shoot, at short notice.
Part of my A-Level coursework relies on this, so please, any information will be very gratefully accepted
Regards
Chris

I have emailed the DH Heritage centre as it is very conveniently close *fingers crossed*

Just wondered if Newark and Twin otter [on the forum] can help.

Do send a message into the DH museum as although closed for the winter there is lots going on. They are a very friendly bunch and have WW2 and interwar biplanes.
I should’ve taken that into consideration when first suggested, I just emailed them.
I was unsure about it because most of the interwar and world war two types are as far as I recall inaccessible?

Any further leads chaps?
I’m looking now for either First World war types (replicas) and/or pre-war/second world war

I emailed Brooklands, but really I’m mainly looking for wartime types although the Vc10 could be a reserve

What about Brooklands, vc10 etc there, and just up the track from London. And access to Concorde

Is there anyone on here who volunteers at Shuttleworth and could perhaps help?

I emailed Shuttleworth, that didn’t go too well, and I’ve emailed Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar to no avail (as of yet)

Hi Chris
You could try the heritage hangar at Biggin Hill.
They have a good variety of ww2 types and may be willing to help.

DeHavilland Heritage Museum(Mosquito Museum) might be worth a call, they have been helpful in the past to me

I thought about the ‘sit in a spit’ but it’s one aircraft and I need 36 exposures and being a portrait based assignment it needs a ‘model’ in each shot
so one Spitfire for cockpit shots mightn’t cover it, I need a couple of planes really, Hendon only really has that which you can sit in and such

RAF Museum Hendon were offer ‘sit in a Spitfire’ expericanes last year, do not know if that fits your requirements ?

Shuttleworth might be a good place to start if you call them ahead of time, and just explain what you are doing.
Alternatively it’s a much longer trip, but the City of Norwich Aviation Museum has both a Nimrod (the big four engine jet, not the 1930s biplane) and a Vulcan you go up inside. I know you are looking for WWII types, but just thought I’d mention it. It’s a small operation, but it’s a great museum with lots of interesting artifacts and aircraft. Great people too!

I have contacted several aviation museums/companies, so far Brooklands has replied and advised it would be possible to utlilise some of their aircraft, a potential lead there.

It might be worth contacting the Shuttleworth Collection to see if they would be able to accommodate your request.
