Hi,
I went to Flying Legends 2005 on the saturday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Last December, I learned that it had been Ray Hanna’s last Flying Legends show. 🙁
Could anyone please tell me which aircraft Ray Hanna displayed on that saturday?
I also took a shot of the mass formation (Balbo?) at the end of the show. Does anyone know if Ray was flying in that formation? In which aircraft and where in the formation?
I know it’s a bit of a long shot, but any answer will appreciated.
Cheers, Transall.

Doesn’t answer your questions Transall, but…

The quality isn’t that important; You know it’s The Master at the controls 🙂
What a wonderful way to remember him. Thanks Seafury for the link.

Thanks for the link, Seafuryfan. Another immaculate display in the autumn light.
Thanks for looking it up, Damian.
This was the first time I took a satisfactory shot of the balbo with all the aircraft in it. It was the last frame on that film too.
Cheers, Transall.

I gather that, if Ray Hanna flew in that balbo, it would have been in MH434?
Thanks for sharing that clip, Alex.
Yes. Just had a quick look at my pics and Ray did indeed fly MH434 in the Balbo on Saturday (in addition to the Spitfire tail chase and solo displays mentioned earlier).
However on the Sunday, I don’t believe Ray flew at all. Looks like it could have been Brian Smith in MH434, but can’t be 100% sure.

Nice clip, but not from the show Transall was inquiring about…… 😉

Transall,
Just picked up on something. This was not Ray’s last flight that came at the Autumn airshow in a pairing with Cliff Spink.

From memory….. (I’m sure someone will correct me if wrong)….
On the Saturday Ray flew MH434 during the opening massed Spitfires sequence, which then followed directly into a solo display as the other Spitfires did their circuits to land. The solo section wasn’t repeated on the Sunday, presumably as the timings were different due to the London flypast departing.
Don’t know from memory if he also flew in the Balbo, but could probably check from pictures later.
