Having received Baxs autobiog for Christmas ‘Tales of our Time’ I can heartily recommend it – in the current chapter – he mentions a postwar discussion between him, Alex Henshaw and Ray Hanna (who Bax felt was the best post-war display pilot bar none)
Ray not surprisingly favoured the Mk IX as the best Spit (he would go to war in the Mustang but display the spit he’s quoted)
AH went for the Vb
and Bax chose the Spit XVI

yep I bought a signed copy when Mr Baxter was at East Kirkby.. great read, especially as it covers not only his aviation career but also the motor racing/rallying and his involvement with the Dunkirk assoc..

First ever aviation programme I made I was lucky enough to have Raymond do the commentary. Incredibly professional, generous man and I count myself very lucky to have met him a few times. Certainly one book I’m going to be buying!
