Hi,
Does anyone have any details on the RCAF using the Hawler Osprey. I know they used the Hart, Hind and Audax but not the Osprey.
I dfound this photo on the ‘net which claims to be a RCAF Osprey.

Hi Paul,
I did a search for RCAF Osprey and found the following link;

I haven’t tried to track the photo any further.

It may well be 790.. If so I still think it is K5745 as K5760 did not arrive on Apollo until 1937 and i think the photo was taken in Canada
BTW what web site did you find it?
They may well have code both Ospreys (2 aircraft on board 790 and 791)

Hi Paul,
Thanks.
I’m not sure about the number being 788 or 789. On the last number there is no middle part of the 8 or 9. Could it be 780 or 790?
The attached photos are of K5760 and K5762 taken while Apollo was on a Carribean cruise 1937-38.

RCAF never had Ospreys
I think it is a picture of a 718 Flt 8th Cruiser Sqn MkIII/IV (HMS Apollo)
FAA Aircraft, Units and Ships 1920 to 1939 has
known codes for this Flight as:
790 K5760
791 K5746
Note: All in the 7xx series
so 78x will be either K5745, K5761 and K5762 (all of which codes are unknown) and I would assume the code is actually 788 or 789 ??.
(Prob 789)
Further evidence is the ship visited various ports in Canada (July/August 1936) so that is why it is labelled RCAF!
I believe it is K5745 as the other 2 ‘unknown’ aircraft did not serve this Flt until after August 1936!
I know a few bods on Air Britain who will be interesed in this picture!
