I dropped by on the weekend to visit the Halifax and see if any new developments or aircraft were on site in Trenton….The Halifax looks very impressive..much larger than I realized…I have visited Friday 13th at YAM but my memory is getting old and I soon forget :p
The airpark is snow covered but it does give you a chance to explore the grounds in a peace ful setting….

What a waste I remember Lark One at the London air show many years ago…

Yeap that’s the one….with a little fresh paint and a few remanufactured panels she would look very presentable in a museum like CWHM or TAM

160778 YF-18A – it is US Navy aircraft but with Canadian Armed Forces markings on nose. Apparently it was used at CFB Borden as a Battle Repair Training Aid…I think the story goes that it was acquired along with about 6 others to help as training aids/spare parts?..not sure what happened to the rest but I think one is still located on the base CFB Bagotville PQ..but she looks pretty rough also..

That Hornet(complete one) looks like it is in canadian markings not us markings?

Yes Mike I think the Auster would last abit longer in the new addition…and she does belong to this time period so it would be a good fit….and the chipmunk could fit in also( it is the right size)

In the early 90’s as a student of my high school’s aerospace class we did some work at Mountainview. We spent the afternoons over a few weeks in the middle of winter dismantling parts off of the Auster that is now on display in the airpark at CFB Trenton.
We did this at the same time they were applying new fabric and dope to the air cadet Schweizer Gliders at the other end of the hanger!
Looking back I know that we probably made a quite a mess of that little bird!
They had originally planned to display the Auster roughly where the CF-5 in now along the south side of the 401 in Trenton. Considering that they know park it under a wing of the Argus in the winter, it wouldn’t have lasted there very long. I hope they bring it inside soon.

Yes Steve apparently the Hornet is the USN BuNo 160778 still appears pretty complete so far…another CF-18 fuselage is next the Navy Hornet but it was stripped Cat A airframe….
The Hornet would look pretty impressive in the Airpark…maybe even returned to USNavy colours and ID…
Here are a few pictures taken on 133190 at 2003 Airshow..she was on static display only…not sure when she last flew…anyone have any ideas?

Hi–
Not sure whether the Trenton Auster ever had a British serial or c/r; it is one of the batch of AOP.6s operated in the fifties by the RCAF. This one was on the Canadian civil register, also, as C-FLWK. The livery is that of a British Army Auster, VF582, flown in a medal-winning action in Korea by Canadian Captain Peter Tees. Very confusingly there are three Auster 6s, all ex-RCAF and Canadian civil, in Canada painted as “VF582″…Trenton’s, the one recently on display at CWH in Hamilton (ex CF-KLD) until replacement by another Auster, and the one stored at CAvM in Ottawa (ex CF-KBV and RCAF 16652).
The ex-USN Hornet is intriguing. Is this BuNo 160778, which had gone to CFB Borden as a battle-damage repair trainer? If so it’s one of the earliest F-18s built, and spent most of its career at McDonnell Douglas as a test bird…

Great stuff BC. Just love shots in snow with a clear sky. Re that blue T-33 with orange nose & tail across the other side. What does that scheme commemorate as I haven’t seen that before? Anyone know what the previous UK i/d of the Auster was?

Nope as I asked but they were not allowing access to the area yet.. I know I could have asked another staff for a private view but maybe next time….

And just a few more…including some pictures taken on the Airbase side at ATESS…I think the Buffalo and Hornet (an former US Navy aircraft) might become part of the collection at the museum…..but don’t quote me on that… 🙂
The Mig 21 is still waiting on its repaint..hasn’t moved since my last visit and the Tracker is waiting for warmer days for restoration to continue I guess…
Still it was a great day to visit and beat the winters blues…..
