Is there, anywhere on the interweb, or in print, a listing of RCAF personnel who served during the last war please? I don’t need to see every name of those who served, just a list of those allocated to 5 Group. Does such a thing exist? As usual, I’m concentrating on just one surname. Where does one start?

Ossington,
Paul is so right. Perhaps you will be willing to contact someone via PM (private mail, I think it is?), so that it can stay out of the public forum. You’ll find that you will be afforded the respect you wish, should you go the PM route.
I can guarantee you, though, that to go public with the simple details of name and service number means that even more readers will see fit to spend time easing you down the road of discovery. People spark off of other people’s research, and a lot can be uncovered very fast. The Internet will be your friend.
From what others have already posted, it is obvious that with a name and service number some more basic help will be handed to you on the proverbial silver platter.
Of course, it is your call all the way.
Cheers,
Matt

Ossington
There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this site as well as other sites such as RAFCommands.com
Including experts in their fields and even RCAF however without a name and or service number then it is very difficult to help
Kind regards
Paul

Thank You all. I don’t want to be cagey with the details, but the search is of a personal nature, for a friend.

If you are looking for his service record try:
Library and Archives Canada, 395 Wellington Street, Ottawa, Ontario K1A ON4 where his Canadian Personnel Record should be available.

Wild goose chase – Cranwell and TNA hold no RCAF personal service records.
If he was commissioned the Canada Gazette is the best source – recorded personal number and name along with gradation date.

WW2 personnel records are held at Cranwell and usually require a circa £30 search fee unless you are direct NOK.

The person I’m after survived the war, didn’t (as far as I know) receive a gong, and wasn’t involved in an aircraft crash. Hence my reason for casting a wide net. Do TNA hold name/rank/number files? Ideally with an attestation and demob dates and a home address…

London Gazette
CWGC
National Archives
Depends very much on what you’re looking for.
