RCAF Wellington crew to be remembered

Good news is it is nice to read another bomber crew are to be remembered.:)

The crew of a Gamston based Wellington X which crashed Near Cresswell are to be commerated by a memorial in May 2011 according to one of my local rags.

Wellington X HE821 of No 86 OTU crashed on a cross-country exercise in ?? June 1944 with the loss of all crew.

Can anyone give any more details about this airframe please i.e. where & when it was built, any previous Sqn service etc

Regards Rad.

Rad,

I am one of the organisers of the memorial to the crew of HE821.
We are now in touch with all the families and members of all five are hoping to attend the ceremony on May 21st 2011.
Additionally Canadian Forces and the RAF will be sending representatives and we are hopeful that we may get a flypast by the BBMF Lancaster.

HE821 was one of a batch of 672 Vickers Wellington X’s that were delivered between November 42 and May 43 by Vickers-Armstrongs, Hawarden,Chester.

The aircraft intially served with 429 (Bison) Squadron RCAF at East Moor.
I’ve not been able to find details of its service with 429.

The accident occurred on August 5th 1944 at the end of a 6 1/2 hour cross country exercise.

Hope this is of some interest.
