I knew in primary school that my English teacher – Anker Rønberg – had a past in the Royal Danish Navy and that he had been serving in Greenland.
Also heard him mention the words ‘Catalina’ and ‘aeroplane’ but did not pay much attention to it at the time as my interest in aviation was still slumbering and puberty was raging
However, recently I fell across his Picasa Web albums and found in them these pictures. I love these old photographs and thought I’d share them with you [With permission]
The C-54 pics are from the albums ‘Mestersvig 1962’ and the Catalina [Canso?] pics from ‘Grønnedal 1960’

Lovely photos. “The C-54 pics are from the albums ‘Mestersvig 1962’ and the Catalina [Canso?] pics from ‘Grønnedal 1960′”. Most if not all of the Catalinas are PBY-6A models with the taller rudder and full span elevators. They show a mix of radar housing shapes above the cockpits.
Duxford’s ‘Catalina’ G-PBYA was active in Greenland last Summer so the link goes on!
