Re Former USAAF Aistrips Uk

Hi

I am trying to trace some of the USAAF cubstrips used during WW2
The exact locations either 6 fig grid ref’s or long / lat would be exremely helpful. Alternately can anyone point me in the right direction to find this info.

RE: Re Former USAAF Aistrips Uk

Don’t know about the units. I do know for a fact though, that the Prom’ at New Brighton/Birkenhead was used to assemble and fly these aircraft from, as soon as they had come off the ships. RE Tatton park and Haydock, I am back up North for one day only on 8/2 so I will endeavour to find out for you! Tatton Park is dead easy, as the runway is still there, it is merely a clearing in the trees in front of the house and was used pre and post war by the Edgerton family who lived there also.

Haydock, I will try to get info for you, but I know that there is no trace of the landing ground now. There used to be German and Italian POW’s nearby too and it was also a site for the Royal Observer Corps during and after the war as well and was named ( I think) RAF Haydock.

Paul.

RE: Re Former USAAF Aistrips Uk

What about Haydock, Merseyside, Birkenhead Promenade and Tatton park, Cheshire?
