And on similar lines, any one believe in re-incarnation ?
NO DISRESPECT INTENDED.
This can be traced back through history (I think the Egyptians where the most prolific in this matter…most people believe in it cos why else do they put you six feet under and place a ruddy great concrete slab on on top ? obviously its to stop you coming back up (As for a Pyramid ….well !)) then there are the Vikings etc etc.
I know there are believers and disbelievers, both side putting forward valid arguments, and am interested in what the Forum (sounds a bit like the ‘Borg’ when you say it like that !) reckon.
Over to you
Cheers
Gary

The Buddhists call it Kharma,
Ant
If we are reincarnated it would not be as a slug or beetle etc,The Buddhists believe that when you die you are reincarnated onto a higher plane, until eventually you reach a state of Nirvanha where there is no physical being left.
Seems to me that we enter this existance as micro-organisms and go out as pure energy.
As you say Kev, this, along with ghosts and the occult cause a lot of debate, like you I like to keep an open mind.
To dismiss anything as crap is crap itself, there’s an answer for everything , rational or not.
btw, are there any Buddhists on this forum ??

RE: re-incarnation
One theory told to me is that we go through several re-incarnations, each time with a purpose, like learning to cope with disability, social situations etc; until we reach a state of perfection and then become some sort of angel !… well it may be BS but who knows it is a theory.

RE: re-incarnation
Yet another topic which I have to keep an open mind on. People who have had regression therapy seem to point towards the idea that we may have had a former life, but how would it work? Do we have a say in who we become? Or is it just arbitrary? If we had a choice I suspect we would like to return as someone whose life made a difference such as curing cancer, being a great inventor, a philanthropist, artist or scientist. But isn’t it equally as likely that we could return as a serial killer?
As for resurrection? I hope not, dying once should be good enough for anyone. They talk of the second coming of the Son of God. If the current state of the world is not sufficient to warrant His return now, (should he exist), then I dread to think what a mess we’ll be in when He does decide to come back.

RE: re-incarnation
Hi geedee, interesting topic. In short,no I don’t believe in reincarnation. The idea that you come back as something else after you die just doesn’t ring true for me.I don’t much fancy spending my next life as a slug or a beetle anyway.
Just to pick up on summat you said about stone slabs over graves,I think this has more to do with resurrection than reincarnation, resurrection being the idea that you might one day be brought back from the dead as opposed to being made into something else and living life all over again.Just thinking about it,I don’t believe in resurrection either.
