Re seaborne Mosquito Pt 2

Hi all

This is the second thread on the issue of the mossies of recent time.

Background.

I grew up near Narromine NSW Ausralia where the 618sqn Mossies were based during the war – they were brought here as deck cargo on a RN Carrier whose name escapes me – they were IV s specially modified with 4 blade props and were to be used against various Japanese assets including Battleships. Apparently they were “Nobbled” by the yanks who didn’t want the technology falling into the hands of the japanese or some such rubbish. The mossies lay at Narromine till the end of WWII . Subsequently they were sold off to farmers as surplus and the remains of 29 or so were located and much material collected by HARS and stored at Schyville near Sydney. Apparantly this vast stockpile dissapeared some years ago and nobody knows where to . Much of the material does however remain and I enclose photos of the Narromine Mossies just before they were disposed of, a wreck in 1972 and a photo of one of the 4 blade merlins as currently displayed here in Queensland

Kind regards
John parker

Firstly there are a few engines and prop hubs available in Australia. Contact me off line and I will fill you in.

The stuff dissapeared over ten years ago and I expect it was NOT scrapped however this is just specu;ation and perhaps we will never know where it went. However it was a lot of stuff and will not easilly turn up without people noticing especially as a lot of it was the specialised 618 sqn parts.

kindest regards

How many years ago did it all disappear and did it coincide with a jump on the price of scrap metal?:(
