First Air Aircraft Aborts Take-Off
while enjoying the weather sitting by the Tamaatavvik Boarding Home / Inukshuk High School overlooking the city from uphill, i myself and a friend watched a First Air (BAE 748) that was to depart abruptly stopped right after applying power in order to take-off. it was about a second after the power was applied the aircraft abruptly stopped (or hit it’s brakes) and the passengers were quickly taken out and moved away to a distance away from the aircraft and left outside on the runway. the aircraft didn’t go far, maybe perhaps between 100 ft – 250 ft or so after applying power. the First Air trucks were on the scene first after a minute or so, then finally after what seemed like forever, the Airport’s Fire Department Truck went to the scene 3 min. – 4 min. after.
the passengers were then returned back inside the aircraft when the Fire Truck / First Air trucks deemed the aircraft was in no danger. but one passenger, or perhaps the flight attendant (since i was from a distance uphill overlooking the city) decided to leave the aircraft again. the engines were left off, and finally, the Airport’s transportation?! truck (something like a tugboat that moves ships but for airplanes) moved the aircraft away from the runway.
what appears to me was that the passengers were overlooked because they were left outside unattended for about five minutes but realized for their safety, the First Air trucks or the Fire Dept.’s truck decided to attend the aircraft first. if the aircraft were to end up in flames, it has to be contained for the sake of the passengers. what surprised me is that the Airport’s Fire Department Truck or the First Air’s Trucks were slow to react or response to a situation that could have happened a lot worse. something like this should never happened again in case of an emergency.
what a way to start off Monday morning. and too bad, i didn’t have my camera with me.
– although it wasn’t serious, just how fast the respose time should be regardless the situation?!

oh yeah, the other thing, too, is that the airline was very tight-lip after the incident. i brought it up to one of the local newspapers and they tried contacting the airline but wouldn’t comment or answer the phone…
Bad publicity is a no no

I’m sure there is a target time, but no set time at which they much respond. Obviously these times will vary from airport to airport.
