Well, I thought folks here would like to see the visit to the Rearwin for it’s 65th birthday on Tuesday this week. Cross post from historic (Melv’s nearly 50).
We (MOTF, myself, Setter) arrived (late)
It was raining (as promised)
We found Melv (despite him a) hiding b) being denied, like Judas at the clubouse. “Melvyn? No, never heard of him. Isn’t a Melv a type of bracket?”)
We forced him to wheel the Rearwin out into the rain.
Robbo rang and abuse was swapped. (Abuse not pictured)
We had tea / coffee and cake (excellent chocolate brownies – top stuff…) And the nice people (“Oh THAT Melv. We thought you meant someone else!”) found a candle so we hummed Happy Birthday while Melv held the candle. 65, since you ask.
It was fun. We were then late for Airbedane’s RAeS talk in London because (as MOTF said “Melv wouldn’t stop talking.”)

Any chance of having an update on the Rearwin, or have I got to come down there and find out for myself?
The cowling is now done and just needs painting but this is hardly the weather. A few minor bits to attend to and then weighing, paperwork, a little bit of interior work, paperwork, fitting the nea tach cable, paperwork, test teh brakes and paperwork.
Oh, and earning a living so that I can afford it.

Melv, I have a reason for sampling Mr Leffe’s finest tonight.
I’ve shagged his daughters as well.
I have several small aeroplanes and some of them fly quite well.
yes Robbo, of course they do. . .

Melv, would you mind signing a few beerbats on Sunday. I’m curious as to whether they’d ebay for more than the value of an unsigned beermat.
Rob
So young Robbo. Is a “Beerbat” the thing you think has hit you around the head when you wake up on a Sunday morning or just your basic inability to spell the word Beermat?
BTW Robbo, ever put your name into Ebay for a laugh and seen what people have been paying?
I’ll sign your ‘beerbat’ young man, just don’t hit yourself around the head with it.
No, do, Anna might appreciate the change!
How’s your aeroplane doing?

I’d give up on that, he’ll probably trade it for booze at the airport.
Y’know he is like that. Only today he was claiming to be 5’7″. Next Mark12 will be claiming to be under 80 years old (You should hear Mark’s Richthofen stories, he had him as an exchange student when Mark’s son went to Prussia)
Any way, Patty. Never liked him. The Sea Fury is a fake (it is actually a PT22 with an R2800 nailed on. Even Daz would laugh at that one). He is obnoxious, smelly and lives in a mud hole.
Oh no, that’s Fungus the bogeyman.
Or is it?

Patty may be bringing over my new tacho cable if Aircrat Spruce can get it to him in time…

Cowling second fit was yesterday morning and they should be finished next week. Then I have to fit the second undercarriage fairing and then get the last bits painted. I still have some interior to do, Patty may be bringing over my new tacho cable if Aircrat Spruce can get it to him in time and then there is lots of paperwork.
Run it up twice yesterday. Just because I can.

Cheers

What is its expected cruise speed and do you have formation experience?
About 115 and no. Mind you I have only done about two hours this year so I hardly even have flyin experience let alone formation!
Do you have any pics of Sid helping you. A friend of mine has a tabbly called Spitfire which uses the tyres of his Skyraider for clawing!
Sid stays at home guarding the house against monsters. He is also becoming the finest hunter of worms in the Basingstoke district.

Melv , the new metalwork looks excellent , too good to paint – what about polishing it instead of painting it ?? 🙂
Nope, original 1939 factory scheme. The dish cowl looked pretty good after Steve finished it but that also looks good now.
So, it gets red with the cheat line expanding out so the front of the cowl is all blue.

That day I spent just over eight hours stripping paint and ALL of those panels were later scrapped.
First flight will be sans spats and they may not go on until the summer as I don’t want them to get filled with mud.

Completely new. That is Steve Moon, aviation panels expert on the ladder. The original cowl had been bodged to the nth degree. This is much closer to the original.
