In contrast to my previous post, here’s a few things from Europe that I’m actualyl fond of.
Germans! How can you have issues with the people who invented frankfurters, hamburgers, and beer? Their government is another story, but Germans are some of the nicest people I have ever met.
All the airshows. They certainly, hands down, are better than anything in the USA.
Fanta. Just love this stuff. Orange flavor.
Cadbury’s chocolate. Flake is great.

Carter? Really? You mean the punative tax levels and weak leadership? The only thing he did worth anything was Egypt-Israel treaty. I respect the man for his personal charachter but the presidency was weak.

OK Europe. I love all of it. There are just so many things to see that are fun and intersting. Spent two years in England and there is still very long list of things I want to see and do.
Just my bias. I like the Germans, Danes, English and Scots.

Great thought. Good list.
As a Canadian I can’t speak for Americans but as a long observer of American politics and media I must say that I very rarely observed anti-european attitudes or behavour from Americans until very recently. You can guess why that might be.
Returning to your post, I believe the list of things that Americans (and Canadians) love about Europe, is long indeed.

Interesting that when you read this thread the Europeans are mentioning (or trying) good things about the US, while US posters are picking at the europeans lists or mentioning things that are either at Europes expense like “French Jokes” and “Job Security for the US military” or ways Europe has not stood in the way of the US doing what it wanted like “In-flight refueling practice on our way around the Iberian peninsula enroute to Tripoli”.
It seems they are not ready for this thread, or are not taking it seriously.

They also speak English, which I am grateful for, even if there are some unpleasant historic undertones to that.

Well, I accept Hitler…..I would like to know what it would happen if the US hadn´t intervined in the war…..wouldn´t we be able to set ourselves free?, not a reproach, just a question. But your didn´t do anything with our local ditator, Franco. Well, Spanish wouldn´t enjoy external intervention. It was our naughty man. And about Milosevic, well more doubts. He was overthrown by his own people, by the yugoslavs, great way…..without a shoot. Did the war contributed?, or prevented him from falling before?. Hard question. I feel that the best way to overthrown bad guys is from inside.

Many now says how he acted courageously to avoid war with the Soviets, but mind you that the nuke bombers were in the air….i don’t think there’s nuke bombers in the air right now.

Thanks for the props (as we say here in the US), but we know we have a pretty good thing going over here. It really upsets Americans that the 9/11 hijackers had all lived in the US and apparently enjoyed the American way of life before attacking. But that just goes to show how out of touch most Americans are with world opinion.
As an American I know it is safe to say that Americans as a group are pretty simple minded people. From time to time, we end up with a moron in the White House who can be easily manipulated. We had this with the Reagan and the Jr. Bush administration. Of course, the smartest man to hold the office, Jimmy Carter, (Nuclear Technician in the US Navy) made some stupid moves so intelligence is not an indication of ability.
I supported Gulf War I because an agressive act against an country that poses no threat must not be allowed to go unpunished. I oppose GWII for the same reason.
