To my eternal shame I haven’t yet ordered this, and have been meaning to, but having a quick shufti on Amazon reveals numerous “Dambusters” titles – and I can’t remember what the book is called!
A little help? 😮

I bought this book a couple of months ago and thought it was great – some super black and white photos of the cast and aircraft during the making of the film.
The one of the camera crew lying on the runway, whilst the Wellington takes off over them was remarkable.

Got my copy (finally!) today – wooo, mama, does it look GOOD! 😀
There are sooooo many fantastic photos in it – if you’re a fan of the movie and you haven’t already got it, pull your finger out and buy it NOW!
An interesting bit of trivia, though. It is well-known that, for the unfinished version of Star Wars, George Lucas used sequences from several war movies such as this and 633 Squadron (I think) to fill in the gaps until the effects shots had been completed. Looking through the latter portions of the book, there is a section devoted to one Gilbert Taylor, who was head of Special Effects Photography on The Dam Busters. The foot of the panel states that:
Gil was destined for great things in the film world and went on to achieve worldwide recognition and fame for his special effects photography. Star Wars is probably his best-known film.

You’d be surprised – there was plenty in Robert Rudhall’s two Battle of Britain books!

Please let us know how it is….I can’t imagine there would be much new to write about the film after 50 years.
