Recent visit to Cosford

My son and I went to Cosford last Friday, and overall it was a great day. Highlights for were the door left open on the Valiant (you could almost see inside clearly!), James May’s Spitfire, the Dornier in greenhouses, and the interactive flight bit for kids.

Was a shame they don’t open more cockpits, although I understand they do open some on the odd OC day. Also the Cold War hall was great, but really difficult to get a sense of the sheer size of the Victor (one of my personal faves!) due to the arrangement of the aircraft.

Also according to Thunder and Lightnings, they have a walk-through Vulcan (XA893) but this was nowhere to be seen- anyone know its whereabouts?

What do other people think?

Do you think if I had asked nicely they would let me in the Valiant/Victor? Was a bit disappointed to see the Jet Provost was closed- sitting in cockpits is the best bit according to my son (9)! I agree (hence our frequent Newark visits!)

It does feel somewhat more ‘alive’ than Hendon!

Only been the once, and found the staff very friendly. One suggested my wife and I sit in the Jet Provost while
he took a photo of us.

In storage elsewhere on the Cosford site, due to elf n safety concerns over it’s radioactive instruments apparently.

Nice museum – strange collecting policy which might see a Comet 2 scrapped whilst a civilian Britannia painted in RAF markings turns into dust!
