Recent Wings Over New Zealand Shows

I thought I’d post a bit of a heads up here on some of the recent episodes of the Wings Over New Zealand Show aviation podcast. I’m sure some of the readers of this forum will find the contents of interest.

Episode 66 – Max Lambert
I interviewed renowned aviation author Max Lambert (author of Night After Night and Day After Day) about his new book Victory, and about his research that has gone into all three books.

Episode 67 – The Bomber Command Commemoration
A recording of the speeches and proceedings at the recent annual national Bomber Command Commemoration at the Auckland War Memorial Museum

Episode 68 – Unveiling The Captain’s Fancy
This is a recording of the very special ceremony held at the Sir Keith Park Memorial Airfield main hangar, at the Museum of Transport and Technology, Auckland, new Zealand, to mark the unveiling of the new markings on New Zealand’s Avro Lancaster. It is now marked on the port side as No. 75 (NZ) Squadron’s Lancaster III NE181 coded JM-M for Mike, with the nose art and name of the very famous 107-op bomber The Captain’s Fancy. The speeches at this ceremony were really excellent, as were those in the episode above.

Episode 69 – Noel Kruse Part Ten – Caribou Conversion
In the tenth part of the excellent series in which Noel Kruse is recording his long and fantastically interesting aviation career, he gets onto his conversion to the DHC-4 Caribou with No. 38 Squadron RAAF. There are some great stories in this episode, including a crash he was involved in on a small strip in Papua New Guinea.

These shows are all free to listen to or to download to keep. I hope you enjoy them, and I’d love to hear what you all think. Don’t forget the WONZ Show has a Facebook page here too: http://www.facebook.com/WONZShow

The Wings Over New Zealand Show is about to go LIVE

That’s right, I have been offered the amazing opportunity to join the line up of great shows at Warbird Radio, the international station that is based in Washington DC, in the USA. Warbird Radio is currently setting up to go live to the world via the internet, and the station owner Matt Jolley is a big fan of WONZ and has previously rebroadcast a number of our shows, so he invited me to join his new line up of live shows.

The new live format will start in the next few weeks. Matt has just moved back to Washington DC after living in Mississippi for some time with his family, and he’s currently setting up the studio in his new place. Once it’s up and running the WONZ Show will have a live one-hour slot once every four weeks.

So I’ll be presenting the live show, ably assisted by Matt in the producers’ booth, and as well as some pre-recorded bits in the shows, we will have live banter, and listeners around the world will be able to call or Skype in and chat live on air if they wish. There’s also the potential to have guests chatting live on the show too.

The theme of the shows will be oriented around New Zealand warbirds, Air Force, museums, heritage and military aviation veterans.

This live show will be in addition to, and not instead of, the currently podcast format. So for anyone out there with warbird or aviation heritage news who would like to get word out there on their projects, products, events and anything else that fits into the genre, please let me know on dave_daasnz@hotmail.com – and the same goes if you’d like to volunteer to be a live guest on the show.

I’ll let you know closer to the air date all the details of when to tune in, but in the meantime the Warbird Radio website is at http://www.warbirdradio.com/
and their Facebook page is at https://www.facebook.com/WarbirdRadio

Cheers,
Dave Homewood

Yep well worth a listen. My favourite episodes are Noel Kruse. man that man can paint a picture with words. Some funny stories too and fascinating insight into flying some classic aircraft including Vampires the CAC Sabre, Canberra to name a few.

Thank you very much Andy, that’s very nice of you to say so. Not all the content is historic of course, some is current affairs, airshows, restorations, etc. But I really do enjoy recording the history stuff though for sure.

Probably the best historic aviation podcast there is.
