I have not spent most of the afternoon not working and in fact reading this site.

I note also the CIA denied any release of a report on the low-level air recon missions over the PRC. In the 1960s, these missions were carried out by RoC RF-101s but when they started, during the Korean War, they were first carried out by RAF Spitfire FR 18s from Hong Kong, supplementing high-altitude Spitfire PR19s (I mentioned these in my book THE DECISIVE DUEL, SPITFIRE VS 109).

When the story surfaced a few weeks ago I was intrigued to read that it had taken 8 years under the FOI Act to get the previously redacted detail published.

I’m not sure how new it is. The USAF has mentioned the Nevada area (Groom Lake) for quite awhile, and photos of U-2s being delivered by C-124s back in the 50s have been out since the 80s.
