Hi everybody!
Does anyone in this forum have experience in recovering aircraft from Russia?
I have been told by some that you need an ‘official invite’, in order to recover anything from Russia, is this true and if so how would one go about it?.
I am aware of the familiar names etc associated with recoveries from Russia but I would rather do it by myself.
I know that ‘money talks’ especially american dollars over there but how would you make a start??
I have been offered 3 different 109’s but to be honest they are beyond a rebuild, will post pics soon.
Any help would be most appreciated. 🙂

Hi ME-109E, if you want to read about a contributor to this forum who has actually recovered a 109 from Russia, go to the following link and buy the book. It’s an amazing project and you can subscribe to updates on restoration progress and fund-raising.
Good luck!
Thanks for that, just ordered the book!!:)

Hi Me-109E,
I was in Russia in 1991 and 1992 up in the Kola peninsuler.
I came : I saw: but I could not deal with anyone who was trustworthy. I have many pictures of Hurricanes, 109’s, Tomahawks, Ju 88. Aircraft I could touch and see for myself. In those early days everything was 1m dollars and in many respects I was too early do do sensible business.
Since then Jim Pierce and others have manged to work out a business relationship whereby some good and not so good deals have been accomplished. Many other people have failed.
The Hurricane B-GO was sold to three different buyers who, I believe, lost thousands of GBP’s in the process.
You have to find the contact you can trust in Russia (very difficult). Words are cheap over there. Life is cheap over there, and there are more worthless paper contracts than Tesco’s wrappings worldwide, over there.
Take good advise from anyone who will give it to you. Keep your money in an escrow type account and good luck.
He who dares ect………(Hey, the girls are pretty)
Thanks for that, appreciate your advice, if only id won the £88million euro millions the other week, and funny enough a Stirling would be right next to the 109E I want!!:D

Customs rules and regulations for export from Russia change from day to day and usually for the worse. It used to be that you needed an export license to take anything pre-revolution out of Russia but the cut-off date keeps moving.
I tried getting some museum aircraft out but the amount of money they wanted kept going up and up and up. You need to have confidence in the people you are dealing and with the people that they deal with.
We had major arguments when the other side brought in somebody who was going to finance part of the deal who then started making false statements about discussions they allegedly had had with me. It took a long time to convince them that no such discussions had or would take place but the damage was done.

lol.
As I’ve said before, with a Lottery win I’d buy both the Pearce 109 and the ‘Cobra. and leave them as they are in a Museum as perfect time capsules.
Marvellous, they really are…

Do you speak fluent Russian?
Could you imagine a couple of Russian guys arriving at LHR and saying “Right lets go and dig up some aircraft”?
Without Russian help, and an agent you have total confidence and trust in, I would exercise extreme caution. 😉

You could try contacting Jim Pearce who has had experience with russian recoveries. Someone here might be able to provide you with contact info.
One other thing, if I had £225,000 I would buy the 109 (3523) Jim Pearce currently has for sale, is this price the reflection of the recovery cost??

Thanks Peter,
I have spoke to Jim, but I have never mentioned that I would like to carry out my own recoveries, I know that the Hunt brothers do the same thing, but I would feel very awkward in asking them how they go about it if you know what I mean, I just don’t want to ‘step on peoples toes’ 😮
