Red Arrows are too British

OK, I know this is an historic aviation thread, but in case you are not aware, the latest barmy piece of PC-ism is about. It appears that the British Olympic Committee have said they do not want the Red Arrows to appear at the opening of the 2012 games in London, because they are “too military” and “too British” – we might offend non-British guests.

If you are as seething about this bull**** as I am, please go to the 10 Downing Street website and sign the online petition that seeks to reverse this nonsense.

But it wasn’t true. Ever.

It was a fallacy, a chimera.

Some bored journalist pulled it out of his arras on a slow news day and, lo and behold, people started ranting and raving on about it because – and this is the bottom line – it confirmed and validated their own prejudices.

After all, it was in the papers so it must be true.

Homo sapiens? Don’t make me laugh! 😑

I hate journalists πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™

The only thing worse than a journalist is a bored journalist πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™

And library’s….I don’t like them either….I could have read the whole thread instead of just the first post if I had the time to πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ Made a fool of myself again I take it…LOL πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Now having the BBMF flyover the opening ceremonies while the German team makes its entrance would be just rubbing it in…:D

Reminds me of that Top Gear episode were they faces the germans and they arrive in T9 Spitfires πŸ˜€

Especially if, by some bizarre coincidence, a band were to be playing Eric Coates’ splendid “Dambusters March” somewhere in the immediate vicinity……. :diablo:

And people wonder why I can’t stand the British… At least some of them…

Is this country the only one on the face of the planet that has no pride whatsoever? It disgusts me!

It’s beyond a joke!!!! Honestly, it seems that they care more in the UK about non-Brits than they do about us….I’ve heard of being a prisoner in your own home but this is rediculous!!!!

Seems like it’s another case of who care’s what the Brits think – as long as everyone else is happy.

This story was a load of old cobblers from start to finish – as some of us pointed out at the time.

If the people who make up tripe like this really have nothing better to do, they can come and sort out the hedges in my back garden…..

I think you mean the English. The Scots and the Welsh have pride in their respective countries and dont winge like the English.

recieved in reply to the signing of the petition

“We’re glad to tell you there is absolutely no truth – and never has been – in the idea that the Government has banned the Red Arrows from the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The Prime Minister was delighted to see the role the Red Arrows played in the celebrations on the Mall after the Beijing Games, and they have always played a significant part in great festivals of celebration in Britain in recent years. Indeed, the Red Arrows played a memorable role when they flew over Trafalgar Square in 2005 to mark London winning the Games.

Decisions on the nature of the Olympic opening ceremony are a matter for the 2012 organising committee, and with four years to go, they have not made their decisions yet. However, the Prime Minister has made clear he would be delighted to see the Red Arrows perform in the celebrations in 2012.

We asked Tessa Jowell, the Olympics Minister, to pass on her comments as well:

She said:

β€œI am delighted that so many people have shown how important the Red Arrows are to them by signing this petition. To their millions of fans, the Red Arrows demonstrate all the best elements of being British of which we are so rightly proud. As we have made clear on many occasions, it is just not true that the Government has in some way banned the Red Arrows from being involved in 2012. Nothing, in fact, could be further from the truth.

The Red Arrows flew over London the day we won the Games in 2005 – and they took to the skies again in August, on another special day for London 2012, as we marked the end of the Beijing Olympics and the start of the run-up to our Games. I know Gordon was as delighted as I was that the Red Arrows were able to play such a prominent role, a fitting end to an Olympics that had been such a triumph for Great Britain. While it is up to the 2012 Organising Committee to decide what form the ceremonies in 2012 should take and who should participate, I am very clear in my own mind that the Red Arrows should be part of London’s welcome to the world in four years time. And I know Seb Coe shares my view.” “

HOW has Tessa Jowell kept her job?! she’s been various ministers now and has managed to ****** all of her positions up!

..think what you will, but still ….

I think it’s the product of a journalist’s overactive imagination on a slow news day.

How about you?
