Hi all
Australian Press are today reporting the grounding of the Red Arrows to pay for Typhoon – is this correct – Have they lost their senses – another Shot in the foot and how long will the BBMF last if it is true
Regards

Bob,
That’s what the press want you to think. The Reds are under no real threat. It’s all a slow news day non-story.
He sounded just like a policeman then!
Steve, I’m out of the country, playing with airyplanes in the Great White North. You have a good time, and if you see any men with big blue breasts on their heads, they are the p’licemen. Be nice. They won’t shoot you (probably) but they know how to use a trunchon.
Run along sonny, and don’t get in to trouble.
Cheers

Unfortunately in this day of accountants running the armed forces nothing would surprise me.
“Where can we save some money?”
“What are those red airyplanes that make a lot of smoke?”
“Oh, thats a good idea, no-one will miss them…”
I also read the article in the Express, and it is just another example of this country going to the dogs. We have the Sea Harrier being scrapped with no viable replacement – the Typhoon is way behind schedule – its all Billy ********…

For those that don’t know, our MarkXII is a keen cyclist. He does 20 miles a day and a the end of the year he will be very, very fit and 7,300 miles away!

Sea Vixens were used by two display teams; Simon’s Sircus (named after the team leader, Lt. Cdr. Simon Idiens) and Fred’s Five (also named after their team leader; nicknamed Fred). While short-lived with only around 40 displays put on, Simon’s Sircus was regarded by many as one of the best air display teams ever.
Aha, so it was Sircus. I have a sneaking suspicion that this would not be allowed nowadays as the Health and Safety Executive would frown upon dangerous use of the letter ‘S’ around unprotected minors, or something.
I did used to like Simons Sircus though, in those days Lee on Solent shows were really good.

It was Simons Circus, 892NAS display team. Displayed for a good few seasons, not sure when they finished, they were still displaying as late as 1968.

Ageism?
Dunno, I can’t remember. We need someone really old, like Mark XII, to tell us.

This was back in about 1965 as I remember. I must admit I don’t remember seeing it written wrong in the programme.

Yes, Melvyn, I think you’re right, the name Simon rings a faint distant bell . . .

Here are 6 of the Sea Vixens (Yeovilton, early 60s)
Was that Simon’s Circus? Used to see them at Lee on Solent open days when I was arse-high to a kneegroper.

my only hostility towards it is it’s replacing the Tornado
Whereas my lack of hostility is for precisely the same reason.

Wonder how much BBMF costs each year then?
Much, much less than a Eurofighter. Much less than most people would imagine.

Move along folks, nothing to see here.
He sounded just like a policeman then! Come on James, which gate will you be defending at Legends???

Red 10 did say publicly at Kemble on Sunday not to believe the story.
By: JDK - 21st June 2004 at 22:44
So, as ever, lots of noise, from the scare-mongering press, based on a sensible but passing remark, which is about the status quo, and no surprise to anyone running an organisation.
Move along folks, nothing to see here.

a single new Eurofighter, of which the RAF is buying 232.
232?! Believe that when I see it…….
