Red Arrows very over-rated

Sorry, no airshow photos for this (yet) but its not quite historic either.

Today’s Duxford show was lacking in sparkle or verve, and the formation went through their tired routine with no evident enthusiasm. They performed rate one turns that took them almost to St Albans, such that they were barely visible from Duxford.

The display was franklly dull, and all the plaudits about ‘ best in the world, etc etc are rather dated now. The Yak team put on a vastly more entertaining show, and I question who are the Arrows for, since they are a hollow reminder of the teams of the past. In the Gnat era, it felt as though the airfield was under attack, and you didn’t know where to look, it seemed so exciting. Even the kids in the crowd seemed pretty indifferent to them.

Now the Hawks whoosh up and down in a stately manner, too high, too far away, too boring to be bothered with.

A major rethink is required.
