Red Bull Air Race broadcast live on the web!

Precision, skill and nerves of steel! Red Bull Air Race 2004

The Air Race is the most spectacular aerobatics discipline around today. On 20 August there will be a race in the centre of Budapest – above the Danube, right in front of the parliament building and in front of hundreds of thousands of fans.
The world’s best pilots will have to to enthuse the jury as well as the spectators. The Red Bull Air Racers β€œtake off” live via Web broadcast on 20 August at 7:30 pm CET at http://www.redbullairrace.com

strong recommendation to watch The Red Bull Air Race in Budapest live via broadband connections and best on an empty stomach.

Afraid I have to disagree with all the hype. I dont question the skills of the pilots involved, or the intentions of Red Bull trying to sponser something aviation related or even the whole concept of it, but in reality it just didnt work, well at Kemble it didnt. If you could have seen the looks around the crowd that would have told the story on its own. One of the film crews were alongside us, and they were struggling to find members of the crowd who would provide the ‘cheery grin’ and ‘how great that was’ comments.

I would love to have seen the pilots in solo routines but we managed to cut short the pain and head for the nearest pub.

For those who missed it live, here is a short movie by one of the participants that really captures the event!

Warnings:
– Broadband or patience needed (approx 22 Mb)
– May cause unbearable urges to fly! πŸ˜€
– May also cause non-pilots to steer clear of aviation! πŸ˜‰

Anyway, I think it’s a must see: http://www.atcbox.com/Downloads/Movies/Aerobatics/RedBull_Airrace_2004_Budapest.wmv

Edit: for more info about the pilot and more video’s see his website: http://www.aerobatics.nl
