This film came out in the mid-eighties at the height of the cold war. I loved it than (was 13 y/o) and I saw it a few months ago and I find it still good. Charly Sheen and Patrick swayze (patrick who ???) fought a guerillawar against invading Soviet and Cuban armed forces.
The USSR had won the cold war in Europe after the Green party won the elections in West-Germany and NATO was dismantelled. Special forces came in the country on board of civilian flights and an enourmous amfibic landing in Alaska. It must have been an enourmous logistical problem to supply an army that needs to travell all the way from alaska trough canada to reach the US but when you’re 13 logistic are something never heard of 🙂 :-).
In one scene you see a F-111 bombing Soviet positions, you see Swayze throwing a granate in the intake of a Yak-38 Forger, a dogfight between 1 F-15 and 5 miGs (not filmed because of budgetary reasons 🙂
)BTW shooting down 4 of them) and last but not least the dramatic scenes at the end of the film with the Mi-24 Hind (Puma with mock up weaponpylons).
Surely most of you (especially the americans) must have seen this movie. great stuff and also a product of its time (Reagan calling the USSR the empire of evil,…)
