I watched “Red Tails” for the first time this week and was pleasantly surprised at the film, despite the knocking it’s had online.
My aim with this thread isn’t to go over the pros and cons of it yet again but instead to ask about these:

We can presume CGI was used to enhance numbers of aircraft on the ground as well as flying, but it looks like several physical replicas were used (various 109s being destroyed). This Stuka looks to me very much like an actual replica rather than CGI, and as such I have questions about it.
Who built it?
Did it survive filming?
Where did it go?
Was there just one?
If anyone has any ideas, or anything to add, I’d much appreciate it from a pure curiosity standpoint.

Stuka
“In fact my bet is they were made by the Barrandov Studios set and props crew.”
You are correct sir, one was made, and i saw it at the studios being made, will try to find a photo of it, I was there to check the progress of the B-17 fuselage.

I find it helpful to bear in mind that what is sent as a message would sound very different if mentioned over a pint during an animated discussion. Messages can come across as very black and white without being able to see the message bearer. And of course everyone has different sensitivities. So I don’t get too offended by sharp sounding posts. Just a thought.
Anyway, about this Stuka…

Just gripes me sometimes when someone asks a perfectly sound and reasonable question and it’s either shot down by people who think they know it all or made a mockery of.
All I ask is that people instead of shooting down questions that people give an answer and not be a d++k about it.
I’m sorry if it seems I am having a pop but I felt it was time to say something as its happening too many times on here.

Someone forgot to tell the film crew that it was CGI….. OP 1 : Experts 0

That photo looks fake to me! :diablo:
It is actually reassuring that it is getting harder to tell what is real and what is fake in some situations, certainly from the cinematic point of view anyway. Plus when you look at the work of someone like Skyraider3d it is exceptional.

LOL at this thread. Did some of you wander in here by accident, while looking for a histrionic aviation forum?;)

Too late. Still, I could become a ghost writer…

I think you should stick around. Things get a bit heated and misunderstood on a forum, in a way they never would face-to face. Come this time next week, nobody will even remember this thread, let alone who thought what 🙂
yes, unfortunately…..so that it is happening all the time!;)

I’d have killed myself by now. 😉
If only.

No point leaving. Hell, if I took offence to correction when I was wrong, I’d have killed myself by now. 😉

I have also decided to withdraw from the forum. Good luck to everyone and I hope I have been if some to use to those I have helped over the years.
Your help with German artefacts is invaluable. Please do not leave because of this..

Agree with the post above. If you read this Augsburg, please stay.

In the runway/art deco control tower shot, does it not look like a london underground sign on the hangar to the right? or is it Canary Wharf station ? brilliant how they got rid of the buildings and used London City’s runway !
Stunning.
LOVE THE FULL SCALE MODEL. for a momment I thought it was a pilatus P2 converted.
By: JT442 - 7th November 2012 at 09:48
Picture No.1 is real. The question was asked about the model, which did exist. Hopefully it has been answered in one of the links by Matty. Can we move on?

The photos of the stukas that the op posted are all cgi, not real. There may be real props in the film, however as stated the ones above are cgi
Sorry Pal, that’s just plain wrong.

Dammit, this cleverdick quoted your post mistakenly; augsburgeagle’s one was the one I had issues with. Not to worry – your post was fine, sorry.
ps the asterisks are the word b0llocks
Never ceases to amaze me the Cleverdicks who can’t spot b’llocks from complete b’llocks 🙂
