Redhill Airshow 2006

Redhill just about escaped with the weather – just a couple of showers before proceeding got underway. The show itself was highly enjoyable with some really great displays and a few interesting fly-in participants. The show is held for charity and this year the main charity was Surrey Air Ambulence Trust – Surrey still doesn’t have it’s own Air Ambulence. Other charities that benefit are RAFA and SSAFA.

Redhill always manages to get something different flying in for the day, this year we we treated with a Pilatus P-2

Another innovation for 2006 was Wreck-fest, this is a section from a Soviet P-63

Airshows aren’t as glamourous as people make out sometimes…..

Flying kicked off with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Redhills dog-legged crowd line made for some extra topside passes!!!

RAF Tucano was the first the modern day RAF visitors with a cracking routine and a final flypast with the spare aircraft in tow.

Justyn Gorman certain seemed to have got the hang of the new toy

Anna Walker gave a polished routine in the Jungmann

The weather for the Utterly Butterly display was somewhat better than for their arrival!

A late addition was Tigger giving a spirit display in the Schweizer 300

The Catalina looked great against the threatening skies to the north

Here’s a great bit of formation flying that demanded great skill. Catalina’s aren’t fast and the P-51 can be a handfull at slow speed so well done to the Cat crew and Rob Davies!

Rob Davies, awesome as ever in Big Beautiful Doll

Pete Rutherford made good use of his Pitts S-1T

It’s the Tiger Clubs 50th Anniversary this year and the came back home with the Turb Team

The show ended with the noise of the 100sqn Hawk which gave a superb display in the tight arena at Redhill

Paul,

Some great photography, and that shot of BBD with the dark cloud is a classic. I also like the wing walker/refueling shot, as it shows the character of a UK show.

Nice images prticularly the Mustang. Have always wanted to go to this show but has always clashed with others. Perhaps next time.

Good stuff Paul!
Redhill isn’t too far from where I live, but the airshow program and the weather didn’t prove too promising. Your photos show otherwise though 🙂
