Reenacting aviation history downunder – insights to warbirds and reenactors

The first story for 2017 at DUAN is now online.

Recreating the human element of aviation history by using reenactors alongside operational warbird aircraft, museum aircraft and at airshows events is a relatively new concept in Australia but over the last few years a handful of passionate collectors of flightgear are making a difference helping to educate the general public in a variety of ways. Likeing it or loathing it won’t be a problem in Europe soon. Under the EU Firearms Directive weapons platforms will be banned, the way it’s been drafted will include warbirds, regardless if there’s any representations of guns, unless they’re in a government museum.

The UK government seems disinclined to ignore it even though there is scope for it not to be enacted in UK Legislation. Germany, which appears to have more reason than us to fear terrorism, has decided not to enact it.

Sometimes they have to be spoken to about keeping their booger hooks away from the aircraft…

Whilst there is a marmite effect or vegemite, I.e. Like it or loathe it. I like the dimension re enactors bring. Looks good.
