Wow – that is absolutely stunning. Thanks posting it!

You plan on doing any more – I think I’m going to do a Concorde pic soon. I’ll dig out a pic of my Mustang on canvas and post it up shortly.

LN Strike Eagle
Don’t reckon I would call it artistic flare but I’ve recently finished my first ever painting back in May. I had never picked up a brush since aged 12 (now 33) but desperately wanted to portray “my” B-17 when some of her crew came over for the 388th Reunion.
Attached is the resulting oil painting after much self-teaching. Not a very exciting aviation art piece but one which did the job to capture the specific details of this B-17. I am thrilled with the photo of me, the painting and 388th vet, Marc Marcusson, who flew this B-17 as a Lead Ship, won a Distinguished Unit Citation ad shot down a ‘109 from his Top Turret.
Robin Smith is indeed a fantastic Aviation Artist. As someone who left Rolls-Royce to concentrate on this career and now lives in an idyllic part of Lincolnshire I envy him somewhat – maybe one day!!!

I posted a link to his website earlier on in this thread – he’s got some absolutely stunning paintings. Examples….

http://www.robin-smith-aviation-art.co.uk/images/aviation/seek.jpg

When I visited his studio, the Shack was just the water. He showed me all of his references that he’d used for it, including a model kit and the Mosquito was in the final stages of being finshed – the paint was still wet!

I also remember him telling me about a Concorde painting he was planning – can’t wait to see that one!

trumper,

Robin has an ad on P33 of the November FlyPast, or try his website at www.robin-smith-aviation-art.co.uk

Geoff.

🙂 Thanks all,it was definately him ,i recognise the flypast picture [his painting, not the magazine]with the Hurricane in it.
He told me it did’nt have a Hurricane in it originally but it was a welcome addition:D
A very nice man to talk to,im envious of anyone with the abilities to make something look so nice from a flat bit of paper/canvas and some marks and colours:D
Cheers:D

Yeh – Robin was at the Legends show this year. Not sure where abouts in the showground though as I’ve never been to legends, but he told me he would be there. I met up with him again at RIAT and had a chat – great guy, fantastic artist.

🙂 I love aviation art, alas ,children and lack of space curtailed my collecting, keep the information links with artists coming very intersting stuff.
I had a lovely chat with a smashing artist at the flying legends this year,i could’ve sworn his name was Robin Smith but possibly not.
If anyone has a copy of the F/Legends programme and if it lists the trade stands he was on the hangar side of the main walkway.
Many thanks 😀

Cool stuff. Do you paint and draw professionally or as a hobby?

This is my Mustang sketch (not a great photo, the original is still at college. Need to pick that up soon).

Some nice paintings on that site. Anyone here got any artistic flare and draw or paint aircraft?

My favourite artist is Robin Smith, fantastic bloke, used him as the study in my A level exam and he helped me pass. Ended up with painting (and pencil drawing) of P-51D ‘Ferocious Frankie’ to accompany the essay.

He has a video out, follows him throught the various stages of painting a commission for the BBMF. Fantastic insight to the work that goes into a professionals painting.

Check out the gallery on his website, he’s got some amazing paintings, afew of which were works in progress when I visited his studio in Feb. Mosquito painting is particularly nice.
