Reggiane 2002

I was rummaging through an old briefcase of mine from the 1970’s recently found in the attic, and came upon some forgotten photos of a visit to Limoges Cathedral.
This aircraft was shot down on June 16th 1944 near Limoges by a local “Maquis” resistance group, and placed in the Cathedral grounds as a memorial to the French ‘Maquis’ resistance fighters who fought the German occupiers and took heavy casualties in doing so.

The airframe only has been preserved and restored in “Musée de la Résistance” in the city of Limoges.

The Re.2000 recovered from the sea seems in extremely bad conditions and could only be used as a source of parts or as a model to restore in future the wreck present at the Caproni Museum in Trento. This Re.2002 was a wreck recovered at the end of the war on an airfield, to restore it have been found an engine and a propeller, then it was rebuilt the left wing, the engine hood and many minor parts.

Is that the one that they got out of the sea a few years back? If so it looks like they’ve done a great job on it.

Thanks for posting those.

I went looking for it in the 80’s when passing through Limoges and was told that it had been scrapped, so it’s a pleasant surprise to see that it survives.
