Registration question

How does one go about getting an out-of-sequence registration? Say I wanted “G-DAZZ” on my Spit, would that cost me a fortune or could I just sort of put my hand up and say “Can I have that reggie when it comes around?”

Also, given that warbirds (as in the real thing) can get dispensation to NOT carry registrations, what about a replica?

Daz,

You know what I am going to say: Make the aeroplane first! There is no point registering anything this early. For one thing you cannot transfer a registration so if you get bored with your Isaacs and decide to splash out the extra coupla quid on the real thing after your lottery win, then you can’t take the reggy with you. Your unfinished project will remain that on the register and nothing will wear G-DAZZ.

Now, get on with it.

I’m sure you will need to register it more than 6 months before completion as you will need to involve the CAA at the earliest possible opportunity if the project is to succeed.

210 quid for a personalised plate? Beats the heck out of the DVLA! 😉 I believe, however, you can only reserve CAA registrations about six months in advance of your aircraft being ready to have one assigned to it. Could be wrong (usually am…)

Been drilling down the CAA site, looks like the premium for out-of-sequence is currently 160 quid over the normal fee (50 for under 15000Kg). Hope g-dazz is still available when you get to the registration satge.

Many thanks, Ken.

I was hoping to do my Isaacs Spit as D-AZ of 234 Sqdn, hence the registration, but if I couldn’t get the G-DAZZ reg, I was going to paint her up as a 19 Sqdn Spit instead.

from my limited knowledge, there are in-sequence and out-of-sequence registrations. G-DAZZ would be an out of sequence for which you pays your money. The CAA has an FAQ on their website for registrations, it should answer most of your questions.

G-DAZZ is currently unregistered, check out G-INFO
